Toyota's car launching in movie

Toyota’s 2009 car will be unveiled on Thursday, but not in the usual fashion. Instead of the traditional media-only event, fans will be able to witness the world premiere of the TF109 online, in a special, big-screen movie trailer.

In addition to the trailer, the purpose built website will also feature a virtual tour around the TF109, video comments from team members and a chance to communicate directly with drivers Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock.

"Formula One enjoys the loyal and enthusiastic support of millions of people throughout the world and we cannot forget that these fans are the lifeblood of our sport,” said Toyota Racing President John Howett.

“This year we feel it is important to allow fans to share the excitement of a new car premiere, especially when the new rules for 2009 have created such a sense of anticipation.”

The move online also reflects the current economic times and Toyota’s desire to embrace the need to be cost conscious while being increasingly open to Formula One racing's legions of fans.

"This is a significant time for our sport and I firmly believe they will see a strong and vibrant Formula One emerge this season, starting with the premiere of the TF109 on www.tf109-premiere.com," added Howett.

The TF109 premiere will go live at 1100 hours GMT on Thursday, January 15. The car is scheduled to make its track debut at Portugal’s Algarve Motor Park the following Tuesday.
